Chapter 10 of 10

Licence, large libraries and FAQ

What is free, what the licence covers, and how Deduplo behaves at scale.

What is free

Finding duplicates is free for ever, on as many folders as you like. What a licence buys is acting on what was found — and five clean-up credits come without one, so a removal can be watched happening, and undone, before anything is paid for. An ordinary duplicate set costs one credit; a large Group-by set costs as many as it needs.

What the licence covers

Finding duplicates and looking at them is not what you pay for — acting on them is.

FeatureNeeds a licence
Scanning and finding duplicatesNo — always free
Removing duplicatesYes
Export reports, and saving a scan to open laterYes
Moving, copying or zipping files outYes
Everything else — AI search, folder copies, watch folders, insights, opening a saved scanNo

Enter your key under Settings ▸ License. Deduplo checks it with our licensing server over an encrypted connection, sending only your key, a salted machine ID, the app version and your OS — never a file. One licence covers one person and up to three computers that person uses.

Large libraries

Deduplo is built for big collections, and it changes strategy as the count rises. Above a hundred thousand files or so it changes how it groups, so the comparison fits the memory your computer has. You do not have to choose this; it happens on its own.

Frequently asked

Does Deduplo change my files?

Never. It reads them, and it removes the copies you tick. It does not edit, rename, convert or move anything unless you explicitly ask it to.

I deleted something by mistake.

Press Undo, or restore it from the Recycle Bin. Toolbox ▸ What happened so far lists every batch.

Why is my first scan slow and the second one fast?

The first scan reads every file. After that Deduplo only looks at what changed.

Can I scan an external or network drive?

Yes. Add it like any other folder. If the drive is disconnected when a scan starts, Deduplo warns you rather than quietly scanning nothing.

It found photos that are not duplicates.

Raise the match strength, or use Not duplicates — never match again on that set so it is left alone in future scans.

Does it work without an internet connection?

Almost entirely. Your files are read and compared on your own computer and are never uploaded. Deduplo goes online only to activate and check your licence, and if there is no connection it simply keeps working.
